Hi,
It is Friday! The day I send you a list of things I hope it will bring some surplus jouissance to you.
|1| LISTENING (Song/Musician) – The first thing I want to call your attention to is the song In a River by Rostam (Apple Music, Spotify). You can listen to it and read the lyrics via this video.
I heard this song earlier this week, and it has been stuck in my head since.
|2| WATCHING (Film)—This week, I watched the Criterion Collection Blu-Ray of 12 Angry Men.
You can watch the trailer on YouTube.
I generally like dialogue-driven films more than action-driven films. However, I'd never seen 12 Angry Men before.
I got caught up in the story and the characters and became very quickly engaged in the story being told. I plan to watch the film again sometime in the next few days and pay more attention to a few different things:
- The craft of the film
- The way that the film demonstrates the effects of the signifier on the body (i.e., how speech/language, the things people say, produce effects on the bodies of people who are subjected to that speech).
More thoughts to come.
|3| READING (Comic) – I was recently gifted a copy of The Planetary Omnibus. I read this comic when it was being released as a single issue in the very late 1990s and early 2000s. It was a comic that I remember really enjoying when I read it, which is probably why someone gifted me the Omnibus volume that collects the entire series.
I'm two of 27 issues in, and I'm having a great time re-reading it.
If you like TV shows like The X-Files or Doctor Who, this is the kind of comic you'd get a kick out of as well.
