Cancelation is a problem, regardless of if it comes from the left or the right
From the Wait, What? Newsletter by Molly Jong-Fast (Part of The Atlantic's new email newsletter program.)
Earlier this month, a Hill-HarrisX poll found that 76 percent of Republicans, 70 percent of Democrats, and 68 percent of independents “either strongly or somewhat agree cancel culture has gone too far.”
I think this is interesting. Both sides of what seems to be an ever-widening political chasm agree on this trend of attempting to get whoever is seen as "the enemy" to stop talking.
I think lots can be gained by trying to listen to people who have experiences and opinions... I'm not optimistic about this happening, but I would love it if instead of engaging in cancellation (whatever form that takes) people were more prone to say something like, "Ok, that's not what I think. Be that as it may, I'll assume you're not an idiot or a monster. Tell me why you believe that."
